As the Chief Operating Officer of Emerald Companies, Steve Afeman’s primary duties are: the development and oversight of all Emerald Companies’ operations (correctional management, health services and supply and pharmacy distribution,) and representing Emerald Companies in its dealings with government agencies and jurisdictions. With more than 25 years of diverse business and detention management experience, Steve joined Emerald as the General Manager in 1999. He was soon promoted to Executive Vice President, and in 2008 became the Chief Operating Officer.
Prior to joining Emerald, Mr. Afeman provided security services for the Governor of Louisiana. His security management experiences led to his creation of SECON, the drug testing company that became a leader in the field of drug screening, serving more than 1,500 client companies throughout the United States, ranging from the corrections industry to companies’ employment screening services. Mr. Afeman’s next position was Vice President of Marketing for a private sector corrections company.
Mr. Afeman earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His associations and affiliations include the American Correctional Association, National Sheriff’s Association, Texas Sheriff’s Association, Governor’s Board for Drug Control and Violent Crime Board, NIDA Advisory Board, and Consultant for the Coleman Research Group.
